B. The First of the Kings
1. Saul (1 Sam 8-9)
Israelites want a king to be like other nations. God gives a king who looks the part.
2. David (1 Sam 16)
David is appointed king. The heart matters more than height - love more than looks.
C. The Rest of the Kings
There was only one King who lived up to His name: King Jesus.
D. Two Interpretations of David and Goliath (1 Sam 17)
Ultimately even interpretations based on the orthodox (tried and true) method of considering social, historical, literal context with analysis in the original language can be incorrect because of incorrect presuppositions and biases.
Because of faith, we can trust that God can still speak through the Bible (His Word - 2 Tim 3:16).
Without faith, you cannot please God (Heb 11:6). One aspect of faith is knowing that we see only part of the picture while God sees the whole picture. We can only consider something from our limited perspective while God has an unlimited view.
