Discussion: Creation & Fall

1. Watch the Bill Nye vs. Ken Ham (Evolution vs. Creationism) debate below. What is the strongest     evidence presented for each side? Should schools teach both views? Why?

2. Some people believe that we're no longer made in the image of God (Ge 1:27) because of sin (Ge 3:6). Would you agree or disagree with that and why?

  1. 1. Bill Nye thinks that we should not treat the Bible as "scientific text" because it was not created to be so.
Ken Ham states that evolution is likewise a belief just like Christianity is and that the scientific "evidence" still requires as much faith as Christian belief requires.
I think schools should teach both sides because they should present every side of every argument and leave it up for students to decide their beliefs on their own.

    2. I believe that we are still made in the likeness of God because whatever he makes is good. However, because Adam and Eve sinned and Satan was allowed to come into our lives, we have been separated from God. This does not mean that we have become less like him - we are still creative and spiritual beings who have an innate desire to be with him and more like him.

  2. 1. I think Bill Nye had stronger evidence simply because he had more. His evidence was mainly used to disprove creationism rather than to validate evolution, which makes sense since the question of debate was focused around creationism. Ken Ham, on the other hand, had less evidence, but each point was clear and elaborate. He had better reasoning and logic that tied all his ideas together.
Both sides had very strong arguments and neither side fully invalidated the other. I think schools should teach both sides to remain unbiased, the same way they teach different theories for other aspects of science.
    2. I disagree because sin does not change who we are: God’s creation. God still accepts us and cleanses us from sin. Eventually, if we believe, we will be made like him.
